Change We Can Believe In
A few months ago, I was talked into signing up on Facebook. Once I joined, I was friended by a lot of people I knew in high school.
There were maybe 1200 students in the school. The cheerleaders and jocks were also the geeks and smart kids. We had kids bused in from the projects and kids whose families were well off, but we all got along pretty well, with the exception of a few fights now and then over the opposite sex.
What amazes me is how much some people have changed over the past 20 years. I am not talking about having less hair and more weight, although there is that, I am talking personality flip-flops.
One girl I hung out with was the kind of girl your mom wanted you to avoid. I remember going over her house and seeing my first video on MTV, (”Twilight Zone” by Golden Earring). I remember her sneaking off to smoke cigarettes. Now? She is a Christian homeschooling mommy!
Another girl I knew, but did not hang out with, was also a bad girl. I remember her getting into fights with other girls, (man, girl fights were rough), and being somewhat butch. Now? She is married and is a natural, baby-wearing mommy.
Amazing!
And me? I am still geeky, goofy, and a little bit of a goody-goody still. Oh, and about 90 pounds heavier.
